Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle, therapeutic massage technique that aims to improve the functioning of the lymphatic system and support the body's natural process of waste and fluid removal. This technique involves gentle, rhythmic movements that help to stimulate the flow of lymph and promote drainage from the tissues. MLD has a range of potential health benefits including:

  • Reducing swelling and fluid congestion, such as in the legs and ankles during pregnancy or due to premenstrual syndrome.

  • It may also promote the healing of wounds and burns.

  • Can be beneficial in the recovery process after general or plastic surgery. MLD can help reduce swelling and fluid accumulation in the affected area, which can reduce pain and discomfort and improve the healing process.

  • In addition, MLD can boost the production of white blood cells, which helps to strengthen the immune system.

  • MLD has been shown to alleviate symptoms of Fibromyalgia as well as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS).

  • MLD promotes deep relaxation and improves sleep quality.

  • May reduce the risk of complications related to lymphedema.

  • Can improve the appearance of cellulite.

Proper drainage of the lymphatic system is essential for maintaining good health. However, certain conditions or factors, such as immobility or injury, can disrupt the proper functioning of the lymphatic system and lead to complications like lymphedema. MLD can help to improve the flow of lymph and support the body's natural process of waste and fluid removal.

Important

This is a non-medical form of lymph drainage. If you require medical MLD services, such as compression bandaging, hosiery fitting, or doppler testing, please contact your GP for medical advice.

The Lymphatic System

The lymph system is a network of vessels and bodily tissues that carry lymph through the body.

The spleen, tonsils, thymus, and bone marrow are also considered part of the lymph system because they produce and circulate lymphocytes ( a type of white blood cell / or leukocyte, which help an organism to fight infections; they occur in the immune system of all vertebrates) in the body. Lymph is formed when interstitial fluids enter the lymph system.

The lymph system has three main duties:

  1. removing interstitial fluid.

  2. absorbing fatty acids and fats from the digestive system in the form of chyle and moving them to the circulatory system.

  3. producing lymphocytes and other immune cells.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

legmassage.jpg

After having a Tummy Tuck, Veronica helped me with my healing by doing MLD. I am so pleased with my results and how much it has helped me. Veronica is the most caring and patient therapist. The treatment was very relaxing, even though I was still healing. It made all the difference in my healing process. The treatment room was very clean, welcoming, and organised. I would 100% recommend Veronica as a therapist. I have already mentioned to friends, family, and colleagues about the amazing work she does. I am so glad I found Veronica, not just for MLD, but for any future treatments!”
